Your tattoo is an open wound while it heals. Proper aftercare helps protect the skin, preserve the artwork, and reduce the risk of irritation or infection. Always follow any specific instructions Sketch gives you at your appointment.

After Care

First 24 Hours

  • Leave the initial bandage on for the amount of time Sketch recommends.
  • Wash your hands before touching the tattoo.

  • Gently wash the area with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap.

  • Pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do not scrub.

  • Apply a very thin layer of the recommended aftercare product (unscented Dial soap, Aquaphor)

Days 2–7

  • Wash gently 1–2 times a day.

  • Keep the tattoo lightly moisturized.

  • Do not over-apply ointment or lotion.

  • Expect some redness, tenderness, peeling, or light scabbing.

  • Do not pick, scratch, or peel the tattoo.

While Healing

  • Avoid:

    • Swimming

    • Hot tubs

    • Saunas

    • Long baths

    • Heavy sun exposure

    • Tanning

    • Tight or abrasive clothing over the tattoo

    • Excessive sweating directly on the area when possible

Sun Protection

Once fully healed, use SPF on the tattoo whenever it will be exposed to the sun. This helps preserve color and detail over time.
